Moosehead Lake Indians, The by Everett L. Parker

Paperback
From prehistory modern times, Native Americans came to the Moosehead Region, and many battles were fought between rival tribes over the millennia. In fact, Mount Kineo and the region could be listed among Maine's first tourist destinations, and these people came during the summer for Kineo rhyolite to make their weapons and tools.

But it's difficult to trace the heritage of Native Americans in the Moosehead region. We do know that trade routes were established in prehistory with neighbors to the north and south. But with the arrival of Europeans, the lives of Native Americans were dramatically altered. This book discusses how local families coped with the arrival of early explorers and learned to live with the Euroamerican once they arrived and started building settlements on land previously occupied by the Natives.
