Wendameen: The Life of an American Schooner from 1912 to the Present by Captain Neal Parker

Paperback
This is the endearing, fascinating tale of how a young man encountered a lovely schooner laid up in a Long Island shed, rediscovered her more than a decade later on a mud bank in Connecticut, and devoted the next five years of his life to saving her.

The 67-foot Wendameen was built in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. The very first schooner designed by famed Boston naval architect John Alden, Wendameen carries the graceful lines of the early Gloucester fishing vessels. But her long career, which began in 1912, was that of a yacht, hosting the rich and famous on cruises and day trips along the Northeast coast and throughout the Great Lakes.

Author Parker has brought together marvelous historical photographs and anecdotes that document Wendameen's rich and colorful history. And he describes in detail the challenging, often painful process of rebuilding the schooner virtually from the keel up.
