This volume contains two essays Hardy wrote for Forest And Stream in 1891: "In the Region Around Nicatowis" and "Six Years Under Maine Game Laws." The former chronicles her travels in the Maine woods after Throeau and the loggers had each left their respective marks thereupon; the latter, the changes for the outdoorsman wrought by the Maine Legislature in the late 19th Century.
